Mission Statement
The mission of the Coeur d'Alene Area Chamber of
Commerce’s Education Committee is to serve as a link between
businesses and the education community to support quality
education and to provide a well-trained workforce in the
Coeur d'Alene area.
In pursuit of this mission, we will act as a resource where
all education issues may be presented. We will filter, then
support quality education issues and bring those to the
business community. We will serve as a forum connecting
students, educators, and business people with one another
and we will continually recognize and support excellence in
education.
2008 Goals
- Serve as a forum within the business community for
the discussion of education issues
- Communicate key education issues to the Public
Policy Committee and the Business Community and provide
position statements for those key issues
- Mobilize resources of the business community to
support quality education programs, in part through:
- New Educator Reception
- Supporting senior projects, career development,
and student mentoring
- Continue to work with local school districts
to organize an Educator’s Tour and Student Tour
of local businesses and the career opportunities
available.
- Recognize and promote excellence in education, in
part through:
- Foster a well-trained workforce by:
- Supporting secondary and post-secondary
Professional Technical and academic programs
- Supporting the efforts to increase affordable
workforce housing locally through involvement in
groups such as Kootenai Perspectives
- Act as a resource to support Chamber members who provide
education services
Chamber Scholarships
Each year in the spring, the Education Committee awards two, $1,000
scholarships to deserving students from Coeur d'Alene High School, Lake City
High School, Project CDA, Charter Academy and the Bridge Academy. As a chamber,
we recognize the value of early work experience in helping students understand
the way business functions, develop good work ethics and to teach how
individuals contribute to the success of a company and the greater community.
Thus, these scholarships are awarded to students with working experience in any
facet of the business world. Click here for the
2008 Chamber Scholarship
application.
The Chamber Education Committee recognizes local businesses that contribute to education
and youth development in our community. A+ Award recipients
are recognized at each monthly Upbeat Breakfast, and receive
an award certificate to display at their business.
Click HERE to nominate any business you feel worthy of
recognition. Be sure to make a brief statement about their unique
contribution to education and youth development in our
community.
